How To Reinvent Yourself

How To Reinvent Yourself

It was a beautiful day in June, the proverbial stars were aligned, everything was going my way. I had just sold one of my businesses for a nice 8-figure sum, I had other businesses that were still earning me a good living and were pretty much on auto-pilot, and for the first time in many years I could just sit back and smell the roses — if that’s what I chose to do. But something wasn’t right within me! I started to think of all the goals that were still incomplete in my life, both personal and business. I’m not one for bucket lists, but if I had a bucket list, my bucket would still be half full of unfinished business.

This thought kept going through my mind: Why do I still feel this way? Is another success, another goal checked off going to make feel complete? How about another home, another car, another luxury, another experience? Will that do it?

As I pondered these questions first for hours and then for days, I realized what was missing. I had yet to impact the world in such a profound way that I felt my mission was complete. You see, part of knowing who you really are is knowing, beyond all doubt, who you were meant to be! The scoreboard of life is not kept by dollars and cents, or possessions, or even in “enough satisfying relationships.” For me at least, the end of the line, the ultimate goal of life cannot be reached until that bell rings in my head and says, you don’t have to go out for the next round – you have won! So until then, I am happy to just go with the flow, to build, expand, work, contribute, believe. I am convinced there is a plan for my life written at the foundation of time, and I am here for just a short-time to run as fast as I can on the treadmill of life to see how far I can get. When I get to the end of the line I’ll know it and I’ll look back and say, “Well done!”

TR reinvent yourself 2

So how about you? Do you know where you’re going or why? Here’s a little secret: Once your life’s template is set, then it’s all about execution. So figure out who you want to be and who you’re supposed to be, and then reinvent yourself in that mold. You may not know exactly what the next step is, but you know there is a next step.

So for me, it was time for reinvention, and I set my goals high, this next venture (perhaps my last) was going to be a media empire that was focused on helping people reach their full potential in life, helping people realize that they were setting their goals and expectations of life too low, and inspiring them to get to the next level and the next and the next.

I truly believe that in today’s face-paced world we should reinvent ourselves approximately every 10 years. There is nothing more stimulating than building, achieving and accomplishing our life’s goals, and then setting even bigger goals.
