Napoleon Hill’s Legacy: What it Means in 2017
Napoleon Hill is one of the best-selling self-help authors of all time. Hill lived his life confident that there was a way to accomplish anything, and despite many setbacks, devoted his life to proving this.
If you have not read his book Think and Grow Rich, it is well worth the read. Published during the Great Depression and the result of years studying successful people, the book offered hope to people from all walks of life, many of whom were living at rock bottom at that time.
Hill’s book sold 1 million copies by the end of the Great Depression and now the number is more than 30 million and climbing. So what is his legacy for those of us in the year 2017?
- Hope even in the worst circumstances: Hill faced numerous obstacles during his lifetime including financial setbacks, divorce, unemployment, and, yes, death threats. In his own life and the lives of people struggling through the Great Depression he found and offered hope.
- Dreams made of concrete: Another thing Hill emphasized was the need to have a dream and never let it go. He wholeheartedly believed that once a person had a dream for success, keeping it clear and protecting it was vital.
- Confidence despite failures: One of Hill’s greatest accomplishments was something far beyond books sales or filled lecture halls. It was the ability to stay confident that his dream deserved to live no matter the circumstances. The same is true of your dream today in 2017.
Hill’s voice is no less powerful today than it was more than 50 year ago as he instructed his reader to have “definiteness of purpose, persistence, and a burning desire for their translation into riches.”
